the big cny party….

not that i wanna duduk bakul angkat sendiri, but i should say the chinese community here are capable of doing the impossible…

with the limited resources and man power, we managed to throw a fabulous cny party, perhaps the best since i came here….

with a small community of about 80 ppl, we had to plan a party and cook for about 300 guest…

the preparation process was rather chaotic, but the end result was far better than expected, so i guess nothing else matters, huh??

a week before the party, we went to buy our food ingredients….about 300 eggs, 15 kgs of fishes, 30 kgs of rice, 60 chickens, a dozen of bottle of soya sauce, 15 liters of oil…..and many more…..but that was not interesting…..what WAS interesting was when paying the money…..it felt good spending the money…..although those money wasn’t mind……no wonder the girls like shopping so much….. perhaps being able to spend money gave satisfaction by stimulating the endorphine releasing in our body, and thus making us feel happy….

i was given the honour to lead the cooking group( thanks to the "thanatos cook book" which "looks" nice), which given 40 members, we had to cook for 300 ppl…we were supposed to cook 8 dishes, namely nasi minyak, carrot cake, loh mai kai, bak kut teh, fu yong egg, black pepper chicken fillet, fish fillet in sweet sour sauce, and vegeterian food….

i had to run up and down and all around the hostel to distribute the raw materials, supervising and well as help out with the cooking….it wasn’t easy i tell you, but thanks to the cooperative members who did not give too much problem, my task was somehow abit lighter….

i would like to thank all the cooking group members for all the cooperation.u guys did a splendid job. it was mission impossible to prepare so much food with so little people and time, and yet u guys did it…..bravo!!

on the day before, the carrot cake group started making the carrot cake…..they started at 6 pm and finished doing everything at 5 am….the next day…..great dedication huh??

as for the other groups, they showed great passion and dedication too, but too bad i was too busy going round the hostel to catch those moments…..

so imagine this, there are 4 floors in our hostel…and all of them are used as the venue for our cny party…the first floor is used as reception and place of dining for the VIPs, the 2nd and 3rd floor were used for booth to introduce our chinese culture to other malaysians, as well as the russians and the foreigners…and finally the 4th floor is used to serve the food for all the guest…

on the day before, decorations were put up on 2nd and 3rd floor…..

they teach the russians card games too….and how we could predict the future with it….( could we???)

moving up to 4th floor, there were caligraphy competition to see who can write the prettiest "chun"….(see how our prof stongin tries to write it….)

on 3rd floor, one could also exchange some food at the mini food stall using the coupon given….there were some cookies and special dishes hand made by our very own chinese students….

later at night….at about 730 pm….everyone gathered around at 4th floor for the lucky draw….

prof strongin picking up the lucky number….

happy lucky winners…

.

finally….the party was ended with a series of fireworks outside the hostel….everyone was happy to see the fireworks….kinda reminded us of the cny we had back home….when we were still young…and fireworks were still legal….it was really nostalgic…

all in all, the cny party was a major success…in my opinion….thanks to cooperation from all the chinese community here….it felt nice working together…seeing ppl we don’t usually see during classes…as we were too busy with our own business…

i wish the juniors would continue the legacy next year,……and make the coming celebration a grand one…..
