hari raya celebration
i know this entry comes in abit late….but it’s better late than never right…besides, raya celebration last for a month….so it’s not too late for me to wish my muslim friends out there selamat hari raya aidilfitri….
i could still remember it was on monday when they celebrate the first day of raya. we had holiday on that day. but in stead of doing nothing, i went to anatomy department to "play" with the cadavers with the first year students….hehe…
as many of us have class on weekdays, it was not till the weekends that our muslims friends had the "real" celebration and open house. it was an open house for all malaysians, on the top floor of our hostel. all the malays cooked together on saturday morning…to prepare the food for the night…
we were served rendang chicken, nasi himpit, penang laksa, kuah kacang, fruit salad, chocholate cake, cookies, puding and many more…
the thing i find wierd is that we had to take the food on one floor and eat on another. and they devided the gals and guys into 2 seperate wing of the building to "claim" the food……altho i find it very wierd, but don get me wrong, i totally respect that….and i’m sure they have a good reason for that…
anyway, the food was ok. we took lots of photos together after that among ourselves as some of us wore traditional clothes, ie baju kurung, baju kebaya and baju melayu….soemthing which we won’t normally wear….i mean it’s russia here ok….you won’t want to freeze outside wearing that….
we had some enjoyable moments…i remembered on that day, i came back late…..probably around 3 am…haha….coz was chatting in a frend’s room and ended having my same old "kepoh" problem and sibuk sibuk go teach a junior latin language…
in the coming few weeks, many of our malay friends had they own open house….and we were invited once again!! hehehe……that means lots and lots of delicious food….
i remembered going to nik’s&aidah’s , rahimah’s, adilah’s, hadi’s, husni’s and farid’s open house…. they served very very delicious food…..i’m drooling thinking about them (the food) now….hehehe….thumbs up for all of them!!..
as the saying goes, "礼尚往来,来而不往非礼也"….i think it’s only right if we chinese community here do the same, i mean cook for them too during our coming chinese new year….and we ARE planning for it….i’m looking forward to it, and i believe it would be a great one
celebrations and meaningful events is a must for all people, regardless of their race or religion. i think the most imporatant role played by these celebrations and events, besides remembering our traditional, culture, religion and stuff, is the time to get together and enjoy, have fun, to get a temporary relief from the hustle and bustle of the life… it’s a good time to rest before continuing fighting on the competitive battle field….
when visiting the open houses…..i can really feel the "energy", "positive qi’ ,"hamonious sprit", or whateverr u call that…..i like that kind of atmosphere…feel so warm and happy….everybody has a smile on their face….
i’m glad we could still bring the warmth of malaysia to this cold place…..although i dunno whether it would last after the celebration is over, i’m glad that during these few weeks, winter doesn’t feel that cold, after all………….
