why are we not happy??
recently i saw a tv show recomending a book translated from german to chinese explaining the biological reason behind our unhappiness. i’m not sure what’s the whole book about, but i probably would just qoute some of the ideas plus my own physiological knowledge about human being.
as we all know we are living in a very competitive world where the strong survive and the weak will perish (acc to charles darwin). this is the basis of evolution and those that survive are stronger than those who are dead. human being, being a part of nature, can’t escape from this fate. we are growing taller than our parents, smarter, stronger…
and we know that human is the most superior among all the animals( maybe we said so because we are human), mainly because of our well developed brain and mind…the mind allow us to think rationally, logically to help us with our daily life
in order to survive in this competitive world, like other animals we have our own high defence mechanism, against anything that might be harmful to us. our brain is extremely good in doing its job of building conditional and unconditional reflex to allow us to avoid the danger coming towards us.
for example, when we touch a hot kettle, we feel hot on our fingers and withdraw the hand immediately. the next time we see a hot cattle, we know that it’s dangerous to us and we won’t touch it anymore. this is juz some simplest example of what our wonderful brains are doing.
so back to the question. why are we unhappy??
it’s a common phenomenon that if a pesron experiece 10 good things in a day( strike lotery, a raise by boss, free treat for lunch…etc…) but only one bad things before he sleep ( for example fall on the kitchen floor and the teeth fall off)….he will think that he is BAD LUCK for the day,,,,
why?? it’s actually our own defence mechanism doing its job. it make us aware of our surroundings, that we shouldn’t let down our defense all the time, because it make us vulnerable.it let us feel sad, sorry, guilty…..so that we would be more cafeful next time.it builds up our defence and ready for "flee or fight"
imagine if without this basic animal instinct, the sky falls, earhtquake, and typhoon comes, and all your reaction is "oh…..so…??" , you are long gone from this world …….
see, there’s a biological basis behind our unhappiness. so don’t blame yourself for being unhappy. when something happens that make u sad, remind yourself that it’s your brain doing its job. things might not be as bad as it seems….maybe u will feel better then…
